Post Congress Tour
DAY 1 - THURSDAY (12. 8. 2010)
Departing Ljubljana in the morning we shall stop first at Olimje. There you will see the minorite monastery Olimje, one of the first pharmacies in Slovenia, and an adjoining herbal garden. Right next to it is also a chocolate shop , where you can buy some hand-made chocolates or pralines. Next, we will visit Ptuj, have lunch there and then go sight-seeing: the castle, the town hall, the main square and more. In the afternoon we will arrive in Maribor to leave our bags in a hostel and then attend some wine tasting in the Vinag wine cellar.
DAY 2 - FRIDAY (13. 8. 2010)
After breakfast we are going to take a stroll around the city of Maribor to see its main attractions. Afterwards, you can choose among a lot of options: from an adrenaline park, to walking to a nearby hill to check out the view over town or going to the Maribor Island on the River Drava to enjoy the sun and swimming pools.
DAY 3 - SATURDAY (14. 8. 2010)
After putting on miners' clothes and gear, we will take cave trolleys and drive through the zinc and lead mine in Mežica. You will experience miners' lives by walking 1.5 km through rooms in the mine which look just the same as when the miners were still using them. We shall have a great afternoon having a picnic by a small lake at the foot of woody hills of Koroška, where you can swim or play football, volleyball and enjoy in other similar sports activities.
DAY 4 - SUNDAY (15. 8. 2010)
In the morning we are heading towards Bovec in the north western part of Slovenia. On the way to our hostel you will enjoy picturesque mountain scenery. Then a two-hour walk will take you along the Šumnik stream, which formes many waterfalls and rapids.
DAY 5 - MONDAY (16. 8. 2010)
You will admire the highest and most magnificent waterfall in Slovenia, Boka. It is 106 metres high and 16 metres wide. Afterwards you can choose between some adrenaline pumping through your veins by rafting on the River Soča or an easy-going time bathing in the river. After gathering back our strength during lunch in Kobarid, you will visit the First World War museum, since there were many battles fought in the area between the armies of Italy and Austro-Hungarian Empire. Afterwards we shall stop at the Italian charnel with a nice view of Kobarid. The rest of the day will be spent on the coast. After dinner we will do a sight-seeing tour to one of the seaside towns finishing the day with midnight swimming in the warm Adriatic sea.
DAY 6 - TUESDAY (17. 8. 2010)
In the morning we are setting off to Izola, the most Mediterranean town on Slovenian coast, which was originally located on an island. A ship will take us to Piran, one of the oldest towns in Slovenia. After sight-seeing the old city centre we are going to see the saltpans of Sečovlje and the adjoining museum. The specialty of the saltpans is the ancient way of producing salt. In the evening we can experience interesting night life on Slovenian coast.

DAY 7 - WEDNESDAY (18. 8. 2010)
You will cross the beautiful landscape of Kras (Karst) and visit Kobilarna Lipica, where famous horses Lipizzaners originate from. You will get the chance to watch the training of the classical horseback riding of the Lipizzaners and to take a look around this over 400 years old stud farm. The old town of Štanjel with traditional Karst architecture will certainly fascinate you. There you will also be able to taste some honey and home-made honey products. In Postojna we will pay a visit to the astonishing Postojna Cave, one of the greatest tourist attractions of Slovenia. There you will see one of the most extraordinary animals, beautiful stone sculptures and large cave rooms. In the evening we are going to return to the capital to end our Post Congress tour programme.
DAY 8 - THURSDAY (19. 8. 2010)
Breakfast in the hostel and departures of the students who will remember this Post Congress tour forever!
